Summary:
Two research positions for two Research Grants (“Bolsas de Iniciação à Investigação“) are open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project Route 25 - PRT – Route 25: Agenda for Autonomous, Intelligent, Interoperable and Inclusive Mobility. This project is funded by the European Union / Next Generation EU, through Programa de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR) [Project Route 25 with Nr. C645463824-00000063]. This work is within the scope of Work Package: "Digital Experience & Adaptive Connectivity for Cooperative Mobility".

Work Objectives:
- Development of a Python application for anomaly detection and signature matching based on existing code.
- Performance evaluation of the application on a Raspberry Pi (RPi).
- Development of improvements to machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection and signature recognition.

Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações – Porto, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ana Aguiar.

Duration:
4,5 months, with the possibility of renewal (according to the regulations defined by FCT). Start date: February 16th, 2026 or soon thereafter.

Admission Requirements:
Research Initiation Grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a professional higher technical course, undergraduate degree, integrated master's degree or master's degree, to undertake initial R&D activities, with a view to beginning their scientific training through integration in R&D projects to be developed in national institutions.
- for students with an undergraduate degree carrying out initial R&D activities who are enrolled in non-degree courses integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
In what concerns the admission requirements for this research initiation grant in particular:
- Candidates must be in 1st cycle graduation student in Electrical and Computer Engineering or equivalent, minimum course average grade of 15;
- Experience in software development is valued;
- Good communication skills in English.
The candidates are eligible if not awarded previously a scholarship funded direct or indirectly by FCT, celebrated according to “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”.

Benefits

Monthly salary:
651,12 € according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p… ).
The payment will be made by bank transfer.


Selection process

Selection criteria:
 

  • C1 (60%)
    Evaluation of academic habilitation
    1.1.Average course grade (50%)
    1.2. Grades of Programming course, computers, signs and statistics (50%)
     
  • C2 (40%)
    Suitability of the candidates’ profile based on the relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work objectives.
    Previous experience in software development or projects with hardware, ability to discuss technical problems in a structured manner and good communication skills in English are valued.
     


Candidates may be interviewed for clarification of any aspect related to the above criteria
Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:
F = C1 x 60% + C2 x 40%
In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
The Jury has the right to not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
