Offer Description

A call is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Scholarship for Master's Degree, PhD student (BI), within the scope of the Research Project entitled T3SH-City - Towards Truly Smart, Safe, Sustainable and Healthy Cities, operation code CENTRO2030-ERDF-02586700, funded by the CENTRO2030 Programme through Portugal2030 and the European Union, taking place at the Department of Informatics, Institute of Telecommunications, University of Beira Interior:

Scientific Area: Computer Engineering

Objective of the activity: Development of communication protocols in peri-urban areas.

Work plan: 

Implementation and implementation of research and development activities within the scope of the T3SH-City project. The methodology to be adopted will follow an interdisciplinary approach, integrating stages of modeling, experimentation and validation, highlighting:

  • Development of Communication Protocols for peri-urban areas;
  • Evaluation of the energy efficiency and QoS of the developed Protocols;
  • Validation in laboratory pilot.

    Workplace

    The work will be developed at the Department of Informatics of the University of Beira Interior, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Mário Marques Freire (mariof@ubi.pt ) and Doctor Tiago Miguel Carrola Simões (tiago.simoes@ubi.pt ).

    Duration and activity regime: 

    The scholarship will last for 24 months, starting in January 2026. The activity will take place on an exclusive dedication basis, according to the RBIUBI.

     Composition of the Selection Jury: Applications will be evaluated by a jury:

    President: Doctor Tiago Miguel Carrola Simões, Assistant Professor at UBI

    Effective members: Doctor Mário Marques Freire, Full Professor at UBI and Doctor Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio, Associate Professor at UBI.

    Alternate Member: Doctor Bernardo Sequeiros, Invited Assistant Professor at UBI.

    Hold a master’s degree in the scientific area of Computer Engineering or related areas, enrolled or meet the necessary conditions to enroll in the cycle of studies leading to the degree of Doctor in Computer Engineering.

    If the required academic degree has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, the requirements of Decree-Law 66/2018, of 16th August and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of 25th January, shall be obeyed. The presentation of the certificate(s) recognizing foreign academic degrees is mandatory for the signing of the fellowship contract.     The proof of registration in the 3rd cycle of studies must be carried out, mandatorily, until the scholarship is contracted.

    Benefits

    A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted , in accordance with Annex I of the RBIUBI, in the amount of €1,309.64, according to updated values, which can be consulted in https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas . To this amount is added the voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to grant it, as well as the personal accident insurance.

    Hold a master’s degree in the scientific area of Computer Engineering or related areas, enrolled or meet the necessary conditions to enroll in the cycle of studies leading to the degree of Doctor in Computer Engineering.

    Selection process

    The selection methods to be used will consist of 2 evaluation phases, according to the following:

    - 1st phase - Curriculum evaluation;

    - 2nd phase - Interview, which can be carried out via videoconference. 

    The evaluation in the 1st phase includes the following criteria: Curriculum Vitae / Academic Evaluation (40%); Suitability of the candidates' profile for the project based on relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (40%); Fluency in oral and written English (20%). 

    The 3 candidates who obtain the highest scores after the 1st phase will move on to the 2nd phase.

    For the final evaluation, each of the evaluation phases has a 50% evaluation.

    Complaint and Appeal Procedures: 

    After communication of the provisional lists of results in the different evaluation phases of the competition (Admission and Exclusion and Curricular Evaluation), candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, express their opinion at a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of articles 121 and following of the Code of Administrative Procedure. In the case of the submission of allegations, the final decision will be rendered after the analysis of the pronouncements presented at the preliminary hearing of interested parties. At the end of the regulatory period of 10 working days, the proposal for the classification and final ranking of the candidates becomes final.

    The proposal for classification and final ranking of the candidates will constitute a selection reserve list for a period of 12 months.
