The research will to a large degree be conducted in cooperation with the clinical field and directed towards evaluation and interventions in health promotion, preventive health care, treatment, rehabilitation, and care.

Common for all research areas within health sciences are human health on micro and macro levels, where the interaction between individual, interhuman and societal conditions are central.

The programme is characterized by methodological and theoretical diversity.

The training component consists of 30 ECTS credits and will support the work you do in the research component (the thesis), which is equivalent to 150 ECTS credits.

The training component consist of two obligatory courses in Health Sciences, one course in methodology and two optional courses.


With a PhD in Health Sciences, you will be qualified for conducting research, teaching and other positions with high demands for scientific insight and production of new knowledge.

Research training in health sciences offers opportunities to apply for academic positions at universities, university colleges, health trusts, and research institutes as well as for positions in other areas in the public and private sectors with a need for competence in the health sciences.
