Programme Description

How can digitalisation contribute to a more sustainable future at a time when global climate change is challenging our current economic system and way of life? The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) sponsors the Digital GreenTalents – High Potentials in Sustainable Development Award to find solutions to these pressing issues and harness the great potential of the digital age for sustainable development.
Annually, a jury picks 20 highly motivated and talented young scientists from around the world who are excited about doing research on topics where digital technology and sustainable development meet. The Digital GreenTalents Award supports the international exchange of innovative digital ideas and offers a great opportunity for long-term cooperation with the German Digital GreenTech community.
Aspiring young scientists are invited to share their ideas and ambitions with a broad public and to conduct research in Germany. The competition is not only about what you do now, but also about what your aspirations are for the future. The award does not fund research projects, but aims to foster individual development.

Scholarship Value

A high-level jury of German experts helps the ministry in selecting 20 high-potentials to be honoured as "Digital GreenTalents". Every year, an online awards ceremony is held where all talents can present themselves and receive their award certificate from a representative of the ministry.
The core of the award is the 1- to 3-month fully-funded research stay at a research institution or company in Germany in the year following the call, as well as the accompanying mentoring programme. During their stay in Germany, the Digital GreenTalents are invited to meet and network at the Digital GreenTalent SpringSchool. The timing and duration of the fully funded research stay (up to 3 months) can be organised individually by each award winner, but are generally linked to the SpringSchool.
