Position Description:

The BCC PostBacc Program, supports laboratory technicians in preparing for PhD studies through the development of research and professional skills essential for competitive graduate school applications. The program also serves as a pipeline for recruiting highly trained candidates into the University of Louisville's PhD programs.

This is a temporary position with an expected start date of 2/2/2026 through 2/1/2028.

This position will be in the Chen Mechanobiology Laboratory at UofL is seeking a temporary laboratory technician to oversee the daily operation of the laboratory and provide support for graduate and undergraduate researchers. Additionally, the laboratory technician will assist with management of laboratory budgets, equipment, and inventory. Further, the technician will be involved in supporting the research projects within the lab and establishing research SOPs for new and incoming personnel. Additionally, the technician will conduct experiments involving biomaterial fabrication, microfluidics, molecular biology assays, and biophysical analysis of cells and tissues.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory to ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols.
  • Manage a team of graduate and undergraduate researchers, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, arranging for repairs and replacements when necessary.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Manage laboratory budgets, including procurement of materials and allocation of resources.
  • Train and mentor new laboratory staff to ensure competence and understanding of protocols.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in laboratory processes and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferentially have graduated within 36 months and have a GPA >3.0.
  • Strong interest in pursuing a PhD.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
