Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) GIS-STEP Internship Program Assistant for the Career Development Center at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Career Development Center (CDC) is hiring a program assistant, a student-employment position, for 10 to 15 hours a week. This program assistant will support the Geospatial Internship & Skills Training for Employment and Professional Development Program (GIS-STEP). Through a combination of internships, coursework, and career training, this program prepares participants from Oregon State University, Central Oregon Community College, and Blue Mountain Community College to enter Oregon’s high-demand, high-wage geospatial information and technology industries with expertise in GIS, strong analytical skills, and real-world experience. Students in the GIS-STEP program participate for one year in a mix of in-person and/or online courses, career development workshops, and a paid GIS internship.
The GIS-STEP Internship Program Assistant will gain experience in external relations, program development, community outreach, grant management, and program assessment in collaboration with the CDC, College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) and our community college partners.

Position Duties
Major areas of responsibility include:
  • Collaborate effectively as an active member of the GIS-STEP team by contributing to shared goals, supporting team members, and clearly communicating ideas and feedback to ensure project success.
  • Supports the CDC External Relations Team and CEOAS staff on all parts of the internship recruitment process, including research, outreach, screening, and orientation by using critical thinking to improve strategies, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively with the team.
  • Assist the CDC External Relations Team and CEOAS staff by conducting data collection and employment verification for grant reporting by maintaining a high level of detail, ensuring secure, accurate, and reliable data.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
The Program Assistant will be expected to attend staff meetings, retreats and other events related to the GIS-STEP program as assigned. Employment will include winter and spring academic terms with the potential to carry into summer and AY 2025-2026.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience with external outreach and engagement.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • High level of professionalism, including written and verbal communication, attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • High level of organizational skills such as time management, flexibility, prioritization, and similar.
  • Familiarity with technology platforms including MS Office suite, MS Teams, Box, etc.

Evaluation of Duties and Supervision:
The employee will be supervised by the CDC Employer Relations Manager. Weekly meetings will be scheduled with the supervisor.

Preferred qualification:
  • Enrolled in a graduate program at OSU.
