Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
PVCC seeks applications for full-time Custodian Positions.
Purpose:
This position provides a full range of custodial/housekeeping services for all college buildings and campus grounds. The custodian contributes to the College Mission by maintaining a “Student Ready” clean and safe learning environment by being a good steward of college property and by meeting or exceeding the college Sustainability Goals.
Job description:
The custodian cleans the buildings, furniture, fixtures, and equipment as assigned. Also cleans the exterior walks, entrances, patios, etc. adjacent to the buildings as assigned. Maintains furniture in classrooms, offices, and public spaces and ensures that the environment is neat, clean, and organized. Reports observed facility maintenance issues to the Housekeeping Manager and/or Facilities Manager. Participates in room set-up and break-down for college events.
Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Uses cleaning chemicals and equipment effectively and safely to meet the Level of Service standard.
  • Sets-up event spaces as scheduled or requested.
  • Responds to janitorial work orders from the college automated work order management system.
  • Follows recycling procedures.
  • Reports to work during off-hour emergencies or special situations, such as snow removal, plumbing failure, or graduation set-up.
  • Performs other cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborates and communicates with PVCC students, faculty, and staff.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • General custodial knowledge/experience in a commercial environment
  • Physical ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs
  • Physical ability to stand for extended time periods
  • Valid VA Drivers License
