CCE of Columbia & Greene Counties 4H, Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Assistant - Acra, NY
The 4-H, Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Assistant is a flexible, supportive staff member who provides assistance across both 4-H youth development and natural resources programs. This position helps plan, coordinate, and attend events and programs such as county fairs, workshops, and environmental stewardship projects. Responsibilities include managing program logistics, registrations, data entry, supplies, and communications; and supporting staff, volunteers, and participants.
For natural resources programs, duties also include supporting field activities, maintaining trails and demonstration sites, conducting basic assessments, and assisting with stewardship projects. The role requires maintaining professional relationships with partners, agencies, schools, and municipalities to ensure successful program delivery.

Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree. GED/High School Diploma plus 2 years’ experience may substitute for an Associate’s degree.
Experience relevant to the role of the position.

Travel Requirements - Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Ability to assist with various duties to support programs and staff.
Ability to relate effectively with others.
Technology Skills - Microsoft Office Suite, program software, virtual meetings.

In addition, the position occasionally lifts, moves, or transports program related materials, and equipment. The position frequently works in outdoor weather conditions, and in natural environments, fairs, farms, schools and community events. The position occasionally performs trail and demonstration site maintenance; performs and demonstrates forest, culvert, and natural resources management techniques (manual removal of invasive species, weeds and shrubs) by positioning self (for example, pulling, bending, reaching, touching, kneeling, using hands to feel/reach) along with utilizing tools like saws, pruners, eel nets, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
4-H and/or natural resources experience preferred.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction and Management – 10%
Assist the supervisor and program staff to plan and manage assigned programs, meetings, and events.
Coordination and Operation – 85%
Coordinate assigned programs, projects, trainings, events, and meetings.
Assist program staff as needed or assigned.
Perform data entry, program and event registrations, and complete paperwork for assigned programs.
Order and purchase supplies, materials, meals, and food for programs. Communicate with supervisors if materials are needed.
Compile existing program materials.
Assist with program participant recruitment efforts.
Support and perform stewardship and natural resources projects, including trail and demonstration site maintenance, sign maintenance, vegetation management, invasive species removal, and field assessments for sustainable management and education plans.
Maintain program tools and equipment.
Assist with routine communications (phone calls, announcements, emails, social media posts, etc.) and marketing efforts.
Attend district and state 4-H events, transport and chaperone youth.
Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, partners, agencies, organizations, schools, and local governments.
Collect evaluations and other data from program participants.
Report/submit program related expenses and income according to established Association policies.
Assist with special projects and outreach efforts as needed.
Professional Improvement – 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details
This is a full-time (35 hours/week), nonexempt position. Compensation paid at the rate of $20 per hour. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
