Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate General Pulmonologist to join our dedicated team of healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of pulmonary conditions, with a focus on providing comprehensive care for patients with chronic lung diseases, respiratory infections, asthma, COPD, and other pulmonary conditions. Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis & Treatment: Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a variety of pulmonary conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, lung infections, interstitial lung disease, and sleep apnea.
- Patient Care: Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients, including pharmacologic therapies, pulmonary rehabilitation, and lifestyle recommendations to optimize lung function and quality of life.
- Clinical Responsibilities: Include up to 8 sessions per week of outpatient clinical care. At least 8 of these sessions (100%) will be at the outpatient practice at The One located at 1111 Westchester Avenue in White Plains, NY. Total inpatient service will not be expected to exceed 12 calendar weeks per year, divided between Milstein Hospital and other NYP-affiliated hospitals. The distribution of your inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities may be adjusted by mutual agreement to accommodate your other duties and responsibilities. The distribution of your clinical responsibilities may be amended from time to time based on clinical coverage needs from NYPH, the Department of Medicine, and the Division.
- Clinical Procedures: Perform diagnostic procedures such as pulmonary function tests, bronchoscopy, and thoracentesis, as necessary to evaluate and treat lung conditions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists, radiologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, and critical care specialists to provide integrated care for patients with complex pulmonary diseases.
- Education: Educate patients and their families on the management of chronic pulmonary diseases, prevention strategies, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
- Follow-Up Care: Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and ensure ongoing care for patients with chronic lung conditions, ensuring continuity and coordination of care.
- Outpatient & Inpatient Care: Provide both outpatient services in the clinic and inpatient pulmonary consultative care as needed, collaborating with hospital teams for effective discharge planning and follow-up.
- Research & Development: Participate in clinical research, studies, or quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing pulmonary care practices.
- Teaching & Mentorship: Mentor medical residents and fellows, providing teaching and training on pulmonary medicine concepts, diagnostic approaches, and patient management. Teaching will include medical student teaching/precepting and/or mentoring house staff and fellows. For Medicine, this may include medical student teaching, mentoring house staff, and attending on the Internal Medicine resident teaching service. For Pulmonary, this may include attending on the Inpatient Consult service, supervising the fellows’ outpatient clinic, and attending on the Inpatient Critical Care-related services at the Milstein Hospital and other NYP-affiliated hospitals.
Qualifications:
- Education: MD degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in Pulmonary Medicine by a recognized certifying board, and eligible to practice in the state of New York.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in advanced lung disease, such as interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and severe emphysema/COPD is a plus.
- Involvement in research or academic publications related to pulmonary diseases.
- Participation in professional organizations, such as the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) or the American Thoracic Society (ATS).
- Skills:
- Strong clinical skills in evaluating and managing common and complex pulmonary diseases.
- Proficiency in performing diagnostic procedures such as pulmonary function tests, bronchoscopy, and thoracentesis.
- Excellent communication skills, both with patients and as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized care plans, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
