The Opportunity
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University invites applications for two (2) faculty positions serving the roles of (1) Assistant Dean for Pre-Clerkship - Assessment (ADPC-Assessment) and (2) Assistant Dean for Pre-Clerkship - Curriculum (ADPC-Curriculum) within the Office of Educational Affairs. The positions are located in Spokane, Washington.

Each incumbent will hold a 12-month, full-time, continuous career track (subtrack determined at time of hire) position in the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences with an academic rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor commensurate with qualifications. The Assistant Dean positions are within the College of Medicine in the Office of Educational Affairs.
Job Duties:
The ADPC-Curriculum and the ADPC-Assessment collaborate with and take direction from the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education to develop, revise and implement a milestone-driven, spiraled, and developmentally appropriate pre-clerkship curriculum and pre-clerkship assessment strategies that prepares students for USMLE Step 1 and the clerkship phase. The Assistant Dean for Pre-Clerkship are responsible for ensuring the alignment and implementation of the pre-clerkship curriculum and the pre-clerkship assessment with the guiding principles of the MD program as defined by the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC).
The Assistant Deans will work closely together to define the vision and guiding principles for the pre-clerkship phase. In collaboration with the Academic Operations unit, the Assistant Deans will provide oversight of the operations of the pre-clerkship in terms of curriculum/assessment for MD students, this includes student support and progression; faculty engagement and development; and evaluation, continuous quality improvement, accreditation, and compliance.

Required Qualifications for All Candidates
  • MD, DO, MBBS, PhD, EdD, or equivalent in a related field such as the health sciences, education or other field given context of work experience and/or other qualifications.
  • Qualified for a faculty appointment within a department at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine
  • Excellent communication, leadership, managerial, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to fostering access and opportunity in the academic environment
  • On-site presence on WSU Spokane Health Sciences campus; remote with travel to Spokane as needed will be considered

Required Qualifications for Associate rank:
  • Current or previous appointment at the Associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for associate rank.

Required Qualifications for Full Professor rank:
  • Current or previous appointment at the full professor rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship, and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for full professor rank.

Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:
  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in medical education, including curriculum and assessment leadership
  • Demonstrated success in curricular and assessment administrative leadership at an LCME or similarly-accredited institution
  • Strong understanding of competency-based education, milestones, and entrustable professional activities (EPAs)

  • All other doctoral practitioner/equivalent (DVM, DC, DDS, etc): $140,000-$200,000
  • PhD/EdD/Equivalent: $135,000-$148,499

Associate Rank:
  • MD/DO/Equivalent with eligibility to practice in US: $246,220.46
  • All other doctoral practitioner/equivalent (DVM, DC, DDS, etc): $154,000-$220,000
  • PhD/EdD/Equivalent: $148,500-$163,349

Full Professor Rank:
  • MD/DO/Equivalent with eligibility to practice in US: $269,709.73
  • All other doctoral practitioner/equivalent (DVM, DC, DDS, etc): $169,400-$242,000
  • PhD/EdD/Equivalent: $163,350-$194,000

While serving as Assistant Dean, this position will be eligible for annually renewed administrative stipend of $20,000-$35,000 commensurate with qualifications.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
