Provide advanced support of cost-effective Research information technology solutions by updating, modifying, and supporting existing myIRB (Java, Struts, Hibernate, Oracle) software application and working closely with the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO). Undertakes complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge and innovative thinking.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Supports myIRB (Java based) application in close coordination with WashU IT and HRPO teams
  • Conducts workflow study and analysis of business practices: Analyzes and documents existing processes as they relate to information technology solutions.
  • Performs application lifecycle activities, including: Code, monitor, maintain, test and debug software applications; follows established change management processes; facilitates code reviews and enforces code standards; develops and executes test plan development; researches and evaluates new technology, products, specialized hardware and tools to optimize development and functionality of applications; makes recommendations to management and customers; assists in ensuring team members complete tasks as assigned, taking corrective action to stay on schedule.
  • Provides support for complex operational activities and recoveries; coordinates with software vendors and external service providers; troubleshoots escalated software bugs and provides fixes.
  • Provides off-hours support, as needed.
  • Provides strong leadership, cultivates and fosters excellent customer service; enforces adherence to departmental standards; instructs, trains and guides less experienced staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
