Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (UB), and Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, soon to be Golisano Children’s hospital, is seeking a highly qualified neonatologist to serve as the new Division Chief of Neonatology. The successful candidate will lead a collaborative team of distinguished faculty members who are passionate about academic and clinical excellence and provide Level IV Neonatal care in the NYS designated Regional Perinatal Center at the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. The Division Chief will serve a strategic and leadership role in advancing NICU services by fostering collaborations across hospital sites and with community partners to further develop and expand the multidisciplinary clinical operations. Qualified candidates will be appointed at the Associate or Professor level rank.
Leadership responsibilities of the incoming Division Chief include:
• Recruiting and mentoring academically outstanding faculty members
• Contributing to curriculum development and overseeing the education of medical students, residents and fellows.
• Expanding research activities of the Division and participate in collaborative research projects within the division and with other departments or institutions.
• Responsible for ensuring appropriate medical direction for the clinical activities of the division.
• Participating in Department of Pediatrics Division Chiefs and Department of Pediatrics Faculty meetings.
• Participating in clinical leadership meetings at the Children’s Hospital.
Clinical activities are based at Golisano Children’s Hospital in our state-of-the-art Level IV single room 64 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our NICU typically admits over 850 babies each year and has an average daily census over 50.
Our advanced state-of-the-art medical therapy for neonatal patients includes:
• Advanced ENT procedures (airway reconstruction, etc.)
• Bedside surgery
• Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), nitric oxide inhalation
• High frequency ventilation
• Laparoscopic surgery
• Retinal surgery
• Surfactant replacement
• Non-invasive ventilation
• Whole body cooling for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)
In addition, our Neonatologists staff a 10-bed Level II NICU at the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
Our Children’s Hospital is the regional center for comprehensive and state-of-the-art pediatric trauma, surgical and medical care, including neonatal, perinatal and obstetrical services. As one of the 43 freestanding children’s hospitals in the nation, and the only one in New York State, the entire facility was built with children and families in mind. The 12 floor 200-bed modem facility is an integral part of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), linking with Buffalo General Medical Center, Gates Vascular Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and more.
UBMD Pediatrics is one of 16 practice plans within UBMD Physicians’ Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 17 pediatric subspecialties. Our physicians make up the academic teaching faculty within the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Minimum Qualifications
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree
• Board certified in Pediatrics and/or Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine by the ABP
