Description
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Associate Professor position in small animal primary care medicine on an 11-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025.
The Primary Care Service hosts a mandatory 4-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care. This includes medicine, basic dentistry, and surgery with the goal of exposing senior veterinary students to a high-quality general practice environment. Most of the caseload is canine and feline, but interest or board certification in companion animal exotic medicine will be considered. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. The successful candidate will join a team of primary care clinicians and technicians and can interact with over 60 faculty members in the small animal hospital, over 40 interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department, and approximately 180 senior veterinary students. The time commitment will be approximately 75% to clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital. Time not assigned to clinical instruction and patient care on clinical rotations will be devoted to classroom / laboratory teaching (15%), scholarship, and service (10%).
The Primary Care Service is currently staffed with a team of three full-time clinicians, one part-time clinician, and six technicians. The candidate chosen to fill this role must be passionate about teaching and role modeling the skills required of primary care practitioners in a private practice setting. These include, but are not limited to, general surgical skills and dentistry, especially related to common primary care procedures such as spays, neuters, and other procedures commonly performed in general practice, and preventive care and medicine. Approximately 50% of clinical effort will be devoted to general surgery and dentistry and 50% to medicine. An interest in small exotics, pocket pets, and birds is welcomed but not required. Applicants must be committed to a team-centered atmosphere and possess excellent communication skills with animal caregivers, faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, technicians, and staff. In addition, faculty members are expected to commit to holding themselves and colleagues accountable to the VMBS code of professional conduct.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a DVM degree (or equivalent). Applicants must be licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas. Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the general practice of small animal medicine. Board certification (i.e., American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, American College of Zoological Medicine, American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine) will be considered favorably but is not required.
