Description

The University of Chicago’s Department of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, seeks an emergency medicine physician with advanced fellowship training in Emergency Ultrasound for appointment as an assistant professor. The appointee will join an expanding ultrasound division and assume a portfolio of responsibilities that requires prior direct experience with the Section’s ultrasound education programs and quality assurance workflows.

The appointee will expand and lead resident and medical student ultrasound education, drawing on prior experience teaching across multiple UME and GME levels within UChicago, and develop and implement a dedicated medical-school ultrasound clerkship, including curriculum design, assessment frameworks, and integration with the longitudinal POCUS curriculum developed during fellowship. The appointee will direct weekly ultrasound image quality assurance (QA) review, providing structured feedback consistent with the systems and processes established during Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship, oversee point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) archiving, credentialing, and faculty development, leveraging existing work supporting credentialing pathways and faculty scanning competency, and lead hands-on scanning instruction, simulation sessions, and workshop-based teaching activities for multidisciplinary learners, including non-physician staff, medical students, residents, and fellows. The appointee will be expected to contribute to operational enhancement of ED ultrasound utilization, including integration of POCUS into ED workflow, clinical pathways, and systems-based diagnostic improvement.
