We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate/Fellow to join an innovative translational research programme focused on childhood brain cancer. Based at the University of Nottingham’s Biodiscovery Institute- see drone footage on the home page – providing exceptional facilities (also see BDI Brochure ). This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
This project will explore novel approaches to biomarker discovery and therapeutic development for a challenging paediatric brain tumour, ependymoma. Using a combination of cell line models, patient-derived biofluids, and advanced molecular techniques, the project aims to profile the molecular cargo (including proteins, lipids and RNAs) of extracellular vesicles (EVs) to identify biomarkers that could aid in diagnosis, risk stratification, and disease monitoring.
The successful candidate will apply multi-omic profiling techniques to investigate the role of EVs in disease diagnostics and immunotherapeutic strategies. A combination of advanced molecular biology, cell culture, omics technologies, and bioengineering methods will be employed throughout the project.
We are particularly seeking applicants with expertise in molecular and cellular biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, or a closely related field. Candidates should hold (or be close to completion of) a PhD in a relevant discipline. Prior experience with extracellular vesicles, biomarker discovery, or paediatric brain tumour research would be advantageous.
Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Tissue sectioning and staining techniques.
- Primary or cancer cell culture
- In Vivo experience
- Immunological assays
- Digitial droplet PCR
- Extracellular vesicle isolation and characterisation
- Research in paediatric brain tumours
- Handling and analysing large-scale mass spectrometry and/or RNA sequencing datasets
- Management of patient samples according to Good Clinical Practice and Human Tissue Act legislation.
- Proven track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
