Job Description

Creative Media Service Team Lead

Department/School: IT Services

Contract type: Permanent

Overview

As the Creative Media Service Team Lead, you'll be responsible for overseeing and leading the Creative Media Service. This role involves not only providing frontline assistance to students and staff but also strategically developing the service for wider university benefit. You will manage a small team, ensuring efficient daily operations, including the loan of portable equipment and the use of specialised media spaces like the TV, Vlog and podcast studios, edit suites and media booths.

A core part of your responsibility is to develop relationships across the university to highlight the importance of media as an alternative assessment and to drive forward the strategic aims of the service. You will be responsible for the planning of media production workshops and online learning content, ensuring they align with academic objectives and are accessible to a wider audience. Your leadership will be crucial in expanding the service, creating sustainable support models and fostering a collaborative network among staff and students to continuously shape and improve the service.

Beyond these duties, you will be accountable for managing the service's budget, maintaining the asset register and reporting on performance metrics to management. You will also take the lead on producing live-streamed events, from high-profile lectures to graduation ceremonies, ensuring they reach a broad audience.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of the Creative Media Service, creating sustainable support models to expand its benefits to the entire university.

  • Manage a small team, overseeing all frontline support activities, including the loan of equipment, studio bookings and assistance in studios, media booths and edit suites.

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders, including staff, students, Digital Learning and Education teams, to continually improve the service. This includes advocating for the use of media as an alternative assessment by developing and sharing best practices through case studies and conference presentations.

  • Design, organise and deliver a range of media production workshops, seminars and lectures that directly support student assignments and academic modules.

  • Develop and create online support resources, including content for the virtual learning environment (Blackboard) and the Creative Media Learning Hub, to ensure ongoing access to media creation guidance.

  • Provide specialist knowledge to produce and direct a wide range of live-streamed events, from graduation ceremonies and festivals to high-profile lectures and one-off special events.

  • Advise and promote best practices for media usage to stakeholders throughout the university.

  • Manage the service budget, including spending, forecasting and advising on future equipment needs.

  • Maintain and update the Creative Media Service asset register to track equipment and plan for its rolling replacement.

  • Monitor and maintain creative media systems to ensure services consistently run to a high standard.

  • Provide regular updates and performance reports to management, including key statistics on loans, bookings, events, and workshops.

  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post
