THE PROJECT
The University of Essex, in partnership with Insightful Technology, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to develop a novel user-based approach to identifying anomalous communications for the monitoring of communications in regulated sectors.

The role is midway between research and practice, centred on behavioural insights in the tech-industry.

The employer is the university, but the post is based at Insightful Technology in London.

DUTIES OF THE POST
The duties of the post will include:

  • Conducting literature reviews and summarising findings for a non-academic audience.
  • Identifying a hierarchy of predictors of risk taking and misconduct.
  • Developing and conducting research focusing on decision-making with guidance from the academic team.
  • Working with Insightful’s software design team of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning experts to understand, implement and improve their model.
  • Understanding ethics requirements and applying for ethics approval.
  • Writing research reports and articles.
  • Communicating relevant concepts at an appropriate level for key stakeholders, including Insightful colleagues and existing clients.
  • Project administration, data management, and reporting duties.

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications

  • Higher degree (MSc/PhD) in behavioural science, behavioural analytics or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour and/or quantitative analysis (e.g., corpus linguistics) or a higher degree (MSc/PhD) in data science with a strong experience in behavioural science.

Skills and experience

  • Ideal candidate will have experience of working in a research environment, and experience of academic publications.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships & excellent communication skills.
  • Good knowledge in behavioural science (e.g., psychology, economics).
  • An interest in the tech industry, with a focus on compliance.
  • Good research skills, including study design and analysis of quantitative data.
  • Some knowledge / interest in machine learning techniques and AI development.
  • Programming skills (e.g., R, python), for quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., natural language processing, corpus analysis, data scraping).
  • Project management skills.

LOCATION
Please note that the role holder will be based at the company offices located in London, but may be expected to travel to the University of Essex Colchester Campus from time to time.
