Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University welcomes applications for a senior lectureship in Economics. Karlstad Business School was inaugurated in 2009 and comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Law, Economics, and Statistics, and the school is AACSB-accredited. The mission of Karlstad Business School is “We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact”, which permeates all activities of the school. Courses and degree programmes on all levels have a strong basis in research conducted by both individual subjects as well as interdisciplinary research groups. We offer degree programmes and freestanding courses. The Programme in Business and Economics (240 credits) offers a specialisation in economics or financial economics.
Economics research at Karlstad University is primarily focused on applied microeconomics, but we now have an interest in expanding our research in macroeconomics and financial economics. We are now looking for a senior lecturer who actively wants to contribute to the continued development of Karlstad Business School. Read more about Karlstad Business School at kau.se/en/hhk .
Duties
Duties include teaching in macroeconomics and financial economics. We are looking for a skilled teacher who want develop both education and research. You are expected to participate actively in applying for external research funding.
You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, you are expected to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
Qualification requirements
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in economics, applicants are required have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in economics, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The work requires good knowledge of Swedish and English
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties included, as well as completed training in higher education pedagogy. Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning. Assessment criteria
In the assessment, equal weight will be given to teaching expertise and research expertise.
Special weight will be given to
- Articles published in scientific journals in the last five years, particularly in macroeconomics and/or financial economics.
- Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding in the last five years.
- Teaching competence in financial economics and macroeconomics.
Considerable weight will be given to
- Excellent teamwork abilities to successfully contribute to the development of the organisation on site on our campus.
- Personal qualities such as the applicant’s ability to take responsibility and show commitment to their work, as well as fostering good relationships with students, colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a structured manner.
Weight will be given to
- Current experience in collaborating with the wider community, as well as communicating research findings and results of development work.
- International work experience or experience from national and international networks.
- Personal qualities such as taking responsibility, showing sound judgement and commitment to their work, as well as a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.
Valuable qualifications
- Recognised or distinguished teaching and assessment skills.
- An interest in and ability to integrate sustainable development, gender equality, equal terms and internationalisation in education are also considered valuable qualifications.
- Documented experience of teaching in English since the subject offers courses in English.
Terms
A permanent full-time position starting at the earliest convenience, as agreed upon by both parties. A probationary period may be required.

- copy of PhD degree certificate or documented equivalent academic expertise, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
- no more than 10 scientific publications and no more than 5 materials intended to convey knowledge, such as textbooks, computer programs for teaching, or popular science articles
- two references, at least one of which is a current or former supervisor
