Introduction

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was founded in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval by the Ministry of Education. It strives to explore a new path of higher education featured by strong connections to both China and the world. The University is committed to providing top-quality higher education that features an integration of the East and the West and fostering an enriching research environment. It is CUHK-Shenzhen’s mission to cultivate innovative talents with a global perspective, Chinese cultural traditions and social responsibilities.

The University has established eight schools, namely School of Management and Economics, School of Science and Engineering, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Data Science, School of Medicine, School of Music, School of Public Policy, and School of Artificial Intelligence. These eight schools, together with the Graduate School, offer 30 undergraduate programs and 57 postgraduate programs. Currently, more than 13000 students are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

CUHK-Shenzhen encourages international experiences and seeks to nurture global awareness. As of now, it has signed agreements with more than 160 renowned universities in over 30 countries and regions across the globe, offering more than 280 international programs of different types. The University has currently established four world-classdisciplinary groups: computer data science, materials chemistry, biomedical science, and economics and finance. In the past five years of Ranking of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Universities in China, the University has been rated as the strongest comprehensive strength in China.

Faculty

The University consistently adheres to an academic system centered on international peer review. The employment and promotion are based on academic contributions and influence. The University’s global recruiting has gathered the world’s leading scholars and scientists here at CUHK-Shenzhen. By now, over 700 distinguished scholars have joined our faculty team, each of whom has had teaching or research experience overseas, including 6 Nobel laureates, and more than 50 fellow members of science academies around the world. Together with their knowledge and expertise, they bring to CUHK-Shenzhen their vision, creativity, passion and dedication for education. 100% of the scholars have teaching or research experience in world-class universities. In the list of Stanford University's world's top 2% scientists released in 2025, there are 146 professors from the University.

Research

The University was guided by innovation and the needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It actively establishes international scientific and technological innovation platforms, assembling 120 research and innovation platforms at all levels. With over 2200 research projects undertaken and 15 innovative teams recognized at the provincial and municipal levels, the university has produced 8,300 high-quality research outcomes, including papers published in prestigious journals like Nature, Science and Cell .

CUHK-Shenzhen has nearly 700 patent applications and over 240 policy reports. Our university has carried out more than 400 collaborations and established nearly 50 joint laboratories with well-known enterprises such as Huawei, JD.com, and Tencent.

In 2023, three postdoctoral research mobile stations of CUHK-Shenzhen have been successfully getting approved, namely Computer Science and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, and Applied Economics, which is also the first time that a Chinese-foreign cooperative university has been approved for postdoctoral research mobile stations.

Seven disciplines, namely Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, and General Social Sciences, have entered the top 1% of the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) global rankings.

The University is recruiting scholars focus on artificial intelligence and robotics, data science and big data technology, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, operations research, communication engineering, microelectronics/ optoelectronics, mathematics, physics, life science, pharmacy, clinical medicine, bioinformatics, advanced materials, chemistry, biology,biomedical engineering,, clinical medicine, new energy, finance, management, accounting, information systems and operations management, marketing, global research, public policy, urban studies, computational social sciences, psychology, translation, music performance, etc.

Talent Support

(1) Salary & subsidy: competitive salary  (equivalent to that of The Chinese University of Hong Kong);

(2) Research Funding: ample funding support,  ample office space, facilities for experimental research, research team and administrative secretary support;

(3) Tax: Personal income tax policies for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area or Overseas Talents Tax policy;

(4) Housing: Provide on-campus teacher apartments and government housing;

(5) Other: Children’s schooling (affiliated kindergarten, primary school and junior middle school), employment assistance for spouse, provision of supplementary commercial insurance, permanent residence permit applications for foreign nationals.
