Offer Description

The FPU and Joan Oró Programs are now open for applications, and we are seeking a highly motivated and hard-working PhD student. The project involves a three-year PhD thesis focused on planar resonators and microwave instrumentation techniques.

The main objective of the project is to standardize the performance evaluation of this type of sensor, thereby improving its applicability in biomedical research. This standardization will be carried out through three clearly defined steps:

  • Design, fabricate, and characterize a set of planar microwave sensors, while introducing and benchmarking new sensor designs against this pool.
  • Conduct measurement campaigns both within and beyond the original application for which each sensor was conceived. Subsequently, extract a set of performance metrics that characterize each sensor as a microwave instrumentation device.
  • Improve the performance of new sensor designs using the developed metrics, with a focus on the detection of nanoparticles in biological fluids. The final stage will involve evaluating the detection capabilities of these devices for socially relevant viruses, first using appropriate phantoms and, through collaborations, real samples.
  • If you are an RF engineer, physicist, or have a related background with solid experience in microwaves, resonators, or antennas, this could be an excellent opportunity to take your expertise to the next level. Join us in Barcelona and work in one of the most recognized departments in electronics and biomedical engineering.
