CO2 Mitigation Accelerated by Photons Group: Post-doctoral position in accelerating the development of sustainable energy materials

Updated: 16 days ago
Deadline: ;

ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to outstanding, highly motivated scientists, who wishes to contribute advance technologies that drive the clean energy transition. In particular, we seek to develop novel strategies that contribute overcoming critical resource bottlenecks in energy devices.

The successful candidate will be joining the CO2 Mitigation Accelerated by Photons group led by Prof. Dr. F. Pelayo García de Arquer who is searching for exceptional researchers, with an excellent proven track record, to work on the development of recyclable energy conversion devices.

The successful candidate will lead on the design of novel approaches to implement recyclable energy conversion devices such as electrolyzers, batteries, and solar cells. This will include both the active and passive strategies.

Active strategies will comprise the development of devices that can be recycled to some extent without compromising performance: i.e., design, synthesis and implementation of electrode supports, catalysts, active absorbing layers, transport layers, membranes etc.

Passive strategies will focus on the development of innovative ways to extract and purify critical raw materials from non-standard feedstock, including the recovery of metals from seawater and wastewater streams. For example, extraction of Li from seawater has been proposed as an alternative to conventional battery production schemes.

The postdoctoral candidate will have the opportunity to work in a vibrant project at the intersection of materials science, electrochemistry, optoelectronics, and engineering, as well as utilize state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization facilities.
