The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow in the Human Potential Translational Research Programme (HPTRP), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.  The HPTRP brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines with an interest to maximise human potential. In HPTRP, we aim to adopt a holistic perspective that considers human potential as an integrative measure of health, productivity, performance, human capital and overall well-being over the lifespan, in our environment. Appointments will be made on one-year contract, with the possibility of one-year extension.

 

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow (RF) will contribute to multidisciplinary projects on heat, environment, and human health. This position is embedded within Project HEATS (link: https://www.linkedin.com/company/project-heats/about ) and related initiatives which combine field deployments, wearable devices, and environmental sensing to address pressing challenges in urban health and resilience. The successful candidate will be responsible to, and work with, the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate include but are not limited to:

 

  • Data analysis of environmental exposures (e.g., temperature, air quality, noise, light) in relation to health and well-being outcomes (e.g., physical activity and sleep).
  • Applying advanced statistical and machine learning methods (e.g., predictive modelling, clustering, multivariate integration) to large-scale time series and sensor datasets.
  • Contributing to the development of risk models and decision-support tools for environmental health and climate resilience.
  • Working closely with the PI to develop new research ideas, and to write up and present project proposals.
  • Generating reports and high-quality publications for presentation to stakeholders and submission to top tier journals, respectively.
  • Working beyond routine work hours due to the nature of research.
  • Maintaining the highest standard of professional conduct and record-keeping in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining regular communication with other members of the research team.
  • Assisting with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

    • Qualifications

    The applicant should:

  • Have a PhD in environmental/climate science, data science, epidemiology, public health, or a closely related field.
  • Have proven expertise in statistical modelling and machine learning for large and complex datasets.
  • Have proficiency in Python and/or R for time-series and sensor data analysis.
  • Have an interest in or experience in environmental exposure assessment or related health research.
  • Have a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be adaptable and able to multi-task well.
  • Be able to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

    Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
