Offer Description

The call for applications is open for a Research Fellowship (BI) under the scope of the research project "Mel I.D,", financed by Programa Nacional para Apoio ao Setor da Apicultura – PNASA 2023-2027, under the following conditions:

 

1. Scientific Area: Biological sciences

 

2. Objectives:

Collaborate in the laboratory work of the Mel I.D. project with regard to the task of developing metabarcoding methodologies for identifying pollen in honey, processing the data obtained, and disseminating the project.

 

3. Work Plan:

1) supporting the development of work within the scope of the Mel I.D. project;

2) developing a database with rbcL and trnL plant sequences and the corresponding NGS analysis pipeline;

3) analysing metabarcoding data obtained for the aforementioned regions;

4) assisting in the preparation of samples for metabarcoding targeting those regions;

5) collaborating in dissemination activities related to the project.

 

4. Duration of the fellowship:

The scholarship will have an initial duration of 3 months, starting on 15/12/2025 (with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 6 months).

- hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or related areas;

- be enrolled in a PhD programme in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related scientific fields, or in a non-degree course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution;

Specific Requirements

- have training and experience appropriate to the objectives of the work to be carried out, namely practical knowledge of DNA extraction, PCR, metabarcoding, and the use of bioinformatics tools for analysing sequences obtained by NGS.

- Proficiency in Portuguese and English (written and oral communication) will also be valued.

Benefits

The scholarship amount corresponds to 1.309,64€ according to the table of scholarships awarded by the FCT, I.P. in the country.

The scholarship holder will benefit from a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security Social Security System. The scholarship amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

Eligibility criteria

- be enrolled in a PhD programme in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related scientific fields, or in a non-degree course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution;

Selection process

The selection methods to be used are as follows:

- (40%) Curriculum evaluation;

- (60%) demonstration of effective knowledge in metabarcoding and bioinformatics, specifically regarding the development of NGS pipelines and databases.

 

If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure.

An appeal may be filed against the final decision to the President of the IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.

Additional comments

Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, and verification of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
