Offer Description

A call for applications is now open for a Postdoctoral Research Grant (BIPD) under the project "Maintenance4SEA 4.0 - Development of methodologies and technologies for predictive maintenance in offshore energy production systems (NORTE2030-FEDER-01818800)“, with funding from the ”European Regional Development Fund Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Northern Regional Program 2021-2027 (NORTE2030)", under the following conditions:
 

1. Scientific Area:
Computer Engineering
 

2. Admission requirements:
- The candidate must hold a PhD in Computer Engineering, or related scientific areas, obtained less than three years ago;
- Relevant experience in conducting research in IoT, Multi-agent Systems, Asset Administration Shells, and RAMI4.0;
- The candidate's training and experience must be appropriate for the objectives of the work to be carried out;
- Relevant scientific publications in indexed journals and conferences (WoS and Scopus);
- Proficiency in English (written and oral communication) will also be valued.

3. Work plan:

This work plan includes the development of the following main tasks:
i) Define a Multi-Agent Systems architecture applicable to offshore renewable energy production systems, identifying the different types of agents, their functions, coordination mechanisms and communication protocols required to support monitoring, predictive maintenance and intelligent asset operation.
ii) Model and implement Asset Administration Shells representing physical assets (e.g. wind turbines and IoT devices), in order to ensure interoperability and compliance with RAMI4.0 specifications.
iii) Integrating the developed approach into a test and experimentation platform.
iv) Writing technical reports and scientific publications.

 

4. Goals:
The project aims to develop an approach to leverage the digitalization of the energy sector, aligned with the principles of Industry 4.0 and the RAMI4.0 reference model, through a collaborative and interoperable solution based on Multi-agent Systems and Asset Administration Shells. This approach aims to support the monitoring and predictive maintenance of physical assets in offshore renewable energy production systems, promoting integration between the physical and digital worlds, interoperability between heterogeneous systems and distributed and intelligent decision-making in dynamic and complex environments.

5. Applicable legislation and regulations:

6. Place of work and scientific supervision:
The work will be carried out in the Research and Innovation Laboratory of CeDRI (Research Centre for Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics) of the Institute Politécnico de Bragança, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Paulo Leitão.

7. Duration of the grant:
The grant will have an initial duration of 12 months, starting on 09/12/2025 (with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 24 months, including the initial period).


8. Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:
The amount of the grant corresponds to 1.851.00€, according to the table of values of the grants awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country. Grant holders will be covered by personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they can ensure that they exercise their right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms of the Code of Contributory Schemes of the Social Security System. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

9. Selection methods and how they will be assessed:
The selection methods to be used will be as follows:
a) Curriculum evaluation and its suitability for the job in question (40%);
b) Experience, according to the desired profile (40%);
c) Scientific curriculum, taking into account publications and participation in projects (20%).
The Jury may call candidates for an interview if it wants clarification on the CV in order to better assess the criteria defined in the Selection Methods. The jury may not award the grant if the candidates' marks are lower than 9.5.


10. Composition of the selection panel:
The panel will be made up of Dr. Paulo Leitão (chairman), Dr. José Barbosa (member), Dr. José Augusto Carvalho (member), and Dr. João Paulo Coelho (alternate).

11. Form of publication/notification of results:
Communications and the final results of the evaluation will be made public via the IPB's application submissionportal
or, if necessary, by notification via email.


12. Application deadline:
The tender is open from 18/11/2025 to 02/12/2025.

13. How to submit applications:
Applications can be submitted through the IPB's application submission portal (http://concursos.ipb.pt ), including the following documents:
a) Curriculum Vitae;
b) Certificate of qualifications;
c) Motivation letter;
d) Other documents considered relevant to the assessment of the application.
Documents proving that you hold academic degrees or diplomas, or that you are enrolled in an academic degree or diploma, may be waived at the application stage, and may be replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, with verification of this condition being mandatory at the grant contracting stage. Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16 and
Ordinance no. 33/2019 of January 25. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for signing the contract.

14. Deadlines and procedures for complaints and appeals:
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the award of the grant applied for, candidates have a period of 10 working days after the date of publication of the results of the evaluation to make their case, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure. The final decision may be appealed to the President of the IPB within 15
working days of notification.

The Jury may call the candidates for an interview to clarify different aspects of the CV regarding a better evaluation of the criteria defined in the Selection Methods. The jury may not award the grant if the candidate's classification is lower than 9.5 points.

If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested grant, the candidates haveaperiod of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure. An appeal may be filed against the final decision to the President of the IPBwithin 15working days.
