Skills/Qualifications

Key responsibilities

  • Synthesis, exfoliation, and surface modification of bulk and layered 2D materials, especially TMDs.
  • Design and implementation of defect engineering approaches to tailor catalytic, electronic, and sensing properties.
  • Advanced structural, spectroscopic, and surface characterization (e.g., Raman, XPS, SEM/TEM, electrochemical methods).
  • Execution and analysis of electrocatalytic experiments related to NRR, NO3RR, and related reactions.
  • Interpretation of experimental results and integration with theoretical/DFT insights in collaboration with computational partners.
  • Active participation in synchrotron beamtime experiments (XANES, EXAFS) and post-experiment data analysis.
  • Preparation of high-impact scientific publications, project reports, and dissemination activities.
  • Supervision and mentoring of MSc and PhD students, including support in experimental design and data interpretation.

Specific Requirements

The candidate is required to have:

  • PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong background in advanced 2D materials, including graphene, MXenes, TMDs, boron nitride–based materials, and carbon nanostructures, with demonstrated experience in electrocatalysis and catalytic materials for ammonia production (NRR/NO3RR).
  • Hands-on experience with materials synthesis, exfoliation, surface modification, and defect engineering, particularly for low-dimensional materials.
  • Proven expertise in electrochemical techniques, gas sensing, and catalytic performance evaluation, complemented by experience with structural, spectroscopic, and microscopy characterization methods.
  • Strong publication record in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals in materials science, nanotechnology, and catalysis.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and project documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international and interdisciplinary research environment, including supervision and mentoring of junior researchers.
