The Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (research and teaching staff) in the Laboratory of Physical Oceanography, Department of Physical Oceanography and Climate Research.

The successful candidate will conduct scientific research in the field of physical oceanography, with particular emphasis on marine physics and acoustics, and will actively contribute to the development of the research profile of the unit. The position involves publishing research results in internationally recognized scientific journals, participating in scientific conferences, and engaging in interdisciplinary research activities.

The appointee will also be involved in teaching activities in the field of oceanography and related natural sciences, including the preparation and delivery of courses in Polish and/or English, as well as supervision of students at undergraduate and graduate levels.

The position is offered as a full-time employment (100% FTE) under an employment contract, in accordance with Polish higher education regulations. The expected start date and detailed employment conditions will be agreed with the selected candidate.

Skills/Qualifications
  • PhD degree in natural sciences, preferably in Earth and Environmental Sciences or a closely related discipline;
  • Solid background in physical oceanography and marine physics, with particular emphasis on marine acoustics;
  • Proven experience in scientific research, documented by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, scientific reports or expert studies, and presentations at scientific conferences;
  • Proficiency in the use of specialized software for the processing and analysis of environmental and oceanographic data;
  • Ability to work in multiple computing environments and familiarity with diverse operating systems;
  • Skills in scientific programming (e.g. Python, MATLAB) and the application of advanced data visualization techniques;
  • Very good command of Polish and English, both written and spoken.

Specific Requirements
  • A PhD degree in natural sciences, preferably in Earth and Environmental Sciences or an equivalent discipline;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical oceanography, with particular emphasis on marine physics and acoustics;
  • Documented scientific output, including publications in peer-reviewed journals, scientific or expert reports, and presentations at scientific conferences;
  • Experience in the processing, analysis, and interpretation of environmental and oceanographic data using specialized software tools;
  • Ability to work across different computing environments and operating systems;
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g. Python, MATLAB) and the application of advanced data analysis and visualization methods;
  • Good command of Polish and English, enabling effective participation in research and teaching activities.
