Ceilings, firewalls, cliffs, escalators, labyrinths, and floors: Identifying, quantifying, and correcting causes and consequences of ethnicity and gender pay gaps at Otago

The role | Te mahi

The successful applicant will work with Professors Lincoln Wood and Christina Hulbe, staff in the University’s Strategy Analytics and Reporting and Equity Offices, and an enthusiastic project steering group.

We seek a motivated researcher with a background in statistical modelling and econometrics, and an interest in workplace equity and concrete actions to drive meaningful change. This research project aims to build a comprehensive understanding of ethnicity and gender pay gaps and their development over time, using HR data from a large New Zealand employer (ours), so that appropriate remedies can be identified and implemented. The project is endorsed by senior leaders in the University’s Human Resources Division, the Pay Gaps Steering Group, and Equity Advisory Committee and supported by an award from the Otago Foundation Trust.

Skills And Experience | Kā Pūkeka Me Kā Wheako

Candidates for this position should: 
•    Hold a postgraduate qualification in applied statistics, economics, data science or a closely related quantitative field. 
•    Have experience using statistical software (R, Python, SPSS, Stata), regression analysis, and statistical modelling are required.

Preference will be given to:
•    Recent graduates or PhD candidates seeking research experience.
•    Candidates who have experience with employment data and familiarity with Māori and Pacific data sovereignty principles.
•    Candidates with programming skills in R, Python or similar languages.

Familiarity with Aoteaora New Zealand employment context is not required but will be helpful.

This position is full time (1FTE), one-year fixed term position, based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin

It is possible to arrange job-sharing between two candidates to accommodate ongoing study or other obligations.

The salary for this role is $65,210 per annum.
