Offer Description

The majority of Europe’s urban population is exposed to levels of air pollutants above new World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has reported that human activities are the main drivers behind the dangerous levels. The MODELAIR project will develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that enables informed and sensible decisions for air pollution control in urban areas.

MODELAIR “Groundbreaking tools and models to reduce air pollution in urban areas” is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The MODELAIR project proposes a combination of theoretical, experimental, numerical, and data-driven science to simulate, control, and design new disruptive technologies for future sustainable cities.

The research and training network unites 5 European laboratories (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid - E.T.S.I. Aeronáutica y del Espacio, Université Libre de Bruxelles - Département d'Aéro-Thermo-Mécanique, KTH Royal Institute of Technology - Mechanics, Centro de Supercomputación de Barcelona, University of Bristol, and 4 companies (ARUP, Microflown Technologies, BuildWind, Air Quality Consultants), and will train 12 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) in fluid dynamics, atmospheric physics and chemistry, engineering, and computer science. The multidisciplinary training will equip the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs with unique expertise at the intersection of data analysis, fluid dynamics, and machine learning (ML).

Microflown Technologies is seeking to hire an Early Stage Researcher to conduct research in the development of novel data analysis and feature extraction tools applied to experimental and numerical urban environment data. The selected candidate will be enrolled in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid's PhD programme.
