We are looking for an Assistant Professor to strengthen our Work and Organizational Psychology section.
Assistant Professor with a focus on group dynamics, in particular teams
- Our goal: The Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) section is embedded in the Department of Work and Social Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience of Maastricht University. With its research activities, the WOP section seeks to contribute to a better understanding of how the challenges of a changing world of work can be addressed and working conditions can be created that benefit both organizations and employees.
- Your colleagues: With this goal in mind, the WOP team investigates a broad range of topics in the area of occupational health, team flourishing, leadership, and organizational behavior and collaborates with the section Applied Social Psychology within the same department. We are committed to conducting high-quality research that addresses societal challenges and matters while at the same time being theory-driven and contributing to a refined understanding of psychological processes in the context of work. We value collegiality, knowledge exchange, and collaboration within the Department of Work and Social Psychology as well as with other research groups within and outside Maastricht University.
What you do
The vacancy concerns a full-time (0.8-1.0 FTE) structural position (tenured after a 1 or 1.5-year probationary period), with a teaching load of approx. 50 % and 50 % time for research.
In the area of research you will
- develop a research line on the functioning and well-being of groups and teams in organizations with a specific focus on the role of technology-enabled change (i.e. AI-enhanced work, virtual teamwork).
- seek to obtain external research funding.
- actively participate in team science initiatives fostering knowledge exchange within our team and the wider Work and Social Psychology department.
- In the area of teaching you will be involved in the bachelor program Psychology and in the master programs of W&O Psychology, i.e. the 1-year master of W&O Psychology, and the 2-year International Joint Master of Research in W&O Psychology (in collaboration with University of Valencia and Leuphana University Luneburg).
- function as a course coordinator, provide lectures, serve as tutor in our Problem Based Learning meetings, supervise bachelor and master theses.
- Furthermore, you will contribute to the group’s management tasks (e.g. participation in ethical review board, educational program committee).

What you bring

- PhD degree in Work and Organizational Psychology, or a related field, such as Social Psychology.
- strong research profile as evidenced by rigorous research studies and first and co-authored publications (possibly in progress) in the field of group and team dynamics in international peer-reviewed outlets.
- potential to develop a research line that complements the WOP group’s research programme with a focus on group dynamics, in particular teams, and technology-enabled change in organizations.
- strong methodological and statistical abilities.
- teaching experience and strong teachings skills as evidenced e.g., by the Basic Teaching Qualification (UTQ) and/or equivalent teaching evaluations.
- Fluency in English at an academic level; If you do not master Dutch, you should be willing to obtain proficiency in Dutch.
- Given our strong team culture, we expect colleagues to be present at the office at least 60% of the time.
What we offer

- An 18-month contract (0.8-1.0 FTE) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
- A gross monthly salary between €4.728 and €6.433 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
- 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
