Posts of Full-Time Research Support Officers I or II

Project ENHANCE-MT – “ENHANCEment of Melanoma Treatment through the development of novel agents and therapies”   

Funded by the Xjenza Malta TDP 2025 Programme

And any other projects undertaken by the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

 

  • Applications are invited for two highly skilled, committed and motivated graduates to take up the posts of Research Support Officers (RSOs) to work on the ENHANCE-MT project, funded by Xjenza Malta (see requirements in the section - Further Information). The selected candidates may also be asked to contribute to other ongoing projects within the department. 

     

  • Applicants must be in possession of a first degree or a Master’s degree in a molecular biology related field.

    4.   The posts are for a period of approximately 6 months and 29 months respectively.

     

    5.   The initial remuneration per annum (inclusive of any cost-of-living adjustments) shall be €27,207 (RSO I) or €30,327 (RSO II).

    Further Information

     

    Working with University of Malta and associate partners at the Institut de la Recherche du Québec, the RSOs will be involved in developing new systems for modelling and predicting the behaviour of human melanoma tissue. 

     

    In line with the project deliverables, the applicants must:

    • Be in possession of a first degree or MSc in a molecular biology-related field.
    • Have working experience in (not exclusively) establishment of primary cell cultures, preparation of 2D and 3D cell cultures from melanoma or other cancer tissue, use of viability assays, apoptosis/necrosis kits, extraction of RNA and protein for transcriptome and proteome analysis.
    • Be willing to travel on duties or training related to the project as the project involves international collaboration.
    • Preferably have experience in writing proposals and papers. 

     

     

    The appointees will be responsible for carrying out research with the main duties including to:  

    • Perform research as directed by the principal investigator and key experts;
    • Assist in the management of the project and work closely with the project partner and the funding body throughout the duration of the project;
    • Produce project deliverables within the time frames specified in the project description;
    • Prepare scientific publications and reports related to the project;
    • Travel to attend meetings/conferences/training as the need arises;
    • Execute dissemination activities related to the project;
    • Assist in the preparation of research proposals to sustain the research activity beyond the funding of the project;
    • Maintain project social-media platforms and
    • Perform any other project-related tasks as instructed by the principal investigator. 

       

    The appointees will be expected to work at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.

     

    The selection procedure will involve:

    • scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
    • shortlisting; and
    • an interview and / or extended interview.

     

    The posts are for a period of 6 months and 29 months respectively, which will be subject to a probationary period and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
