The Laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry (Sudo Laboratory), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University, is inviting applications for a position as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor.
In connection with the CREST program of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), under the Strategic Basic Research Programs “Playing with Cells,” for the project entitled “Mastering Rhodopsins,” the successful
candidate will be engaged in the exploration, analysis, and manipulation of photoreceptive molecules (see Job Description below).

The successful candidate will work on rhodopsins, focusing on:
(1) discovery, expression, and purification of novel molecules;
(2) functional and structural analysis of the obtained molecules;
(3) development of optogenetic tools based on these molecules.
Applicants with experience in related fields such as biophysics, protein science, chemical biology, genetic engineering, biochemistry, cell biology, or pharmaceutical sciences of the physical sciences are preferred. However, the field of specialization is not strictly limited, provided that the candidate demonstrates strong motivation and original ideas.

Annual salary:4 million yen - 6 million yen
Wages description:Annual Salary (Base Salary + Performance-Based Salary): ¥4,000,000–¥6,000,000 (Depending on Grade)
The annual salary will be determined within budgetary limits, taking into account the individual's academic background, work experience, etc., in accordance with Okayama University regulations.
The payment rate for the performance-based salary will vary depending on the length of employment within the six months prior to the base date (June 1st or December 1st).
Applicants will also receive separate allowances, including commuting allowance, dependent allowance, housing allowance, and adjustment allowance.
