Offer Description

[Background of the recruitment and description of the project]
* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Work on the research and development of data-driven methods for observation data in the field of marine-earth science.

[Relevant Research Fields]
Mathematical Science, Nonlinear Physics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Information Science, Computational Science, Geophysical Science, and related fields

[Work content and job description]
(1) Research and development of a data-driven method based on mathematical theory for extracting properties common to nonlinear phenomena.
(2) Clarifying the existence of causality (interaction) between characteristic phenomena observed in the field of marine-earth science (e.g., Arctic Oscillation & Antarctic Oscillation, Earthquake & Tide, Earthquake & Slow Slip, Gulf Stream & Kuroshio Current, El Nino-Southern Oscillation & Annual Cycle), and if present, elucidating the physics that governs the interactions.
(3) Based on the accumulation of analysis cases from item (2), research and development of a data-driven method with the ability to detect and extract causality; the method should be universally applicable to spatiotemporal data in the field of marine-earth science.
To these ends, the successful candidate will make full use of the Earth Simulator, a multi-architecture supercomputer and will also contribute to maximizing the production of results through collaboration with other departments.
