As the only public research institution in Japan that specializes in the field of information and communications technology, NICT promotes ICT R&D, from the foundational to the implementation, while collaborating with universities, industry, local governments, and domestic and overseas research institutions and aiming to generate innovation by giving back to society with our R&D’s results.
To actively promote the recruitment of young researchers and research engineers, we will implement a 'New Master's Graduate Track'. NICT will, in principle, cover the costs necessary for obtaining a doctoral degree after joining.

[Work content and job description]
The position requires a highly motivated mind toward innovative research and the ability to actively and autonomously conduct research in the targeted field. Upon employment, you will be assigned to an appropriate research field where you will set milestones and research targets to clear within the 5-year term. Start-up funds are allocated in the first and second year of employment and can be used for research. During the 5-year term, you may be given the opportunity to be evaluated by the executives and apply for a permanent position.

The tenure-track system aims to identify and secure exceptional researchers who will play a leading role in the future. During the tenure-track period, candidates undergo progress evaluations by the organization’s executives and may advance to a tenure review for transition to a permanent research position. This recruitment is carried out with a focus on fostering long-term career development and nurturing talent.

Annual salary:5 million yen
Wages description:Basic Monthly Salary 459,000JPY (Starting salary for new master's graduates)
Basic Monthly Salary 515,000JPY (Starting salary for doctor graduates)

The following allowances will be permitted in addition to the above:

Dependent allowance…… Employees with dependent family members will receive; e.g., 13,000 JPY/month per child, etc.
Housing allowance…… Employees with rented accommodation will receive a maximum of 28,000 JPY/month.
Commuting allowance…… Employees will receive commuting costs a maximum of 150,000 JPY/month; e.g., the monthly commuter pass fee for public transportation.
In addition, overtime allowance, qualification allowance, special researcher allowance, special service allowance, and discretionary labor adjustment amount may be permitted for those that apply.

*The basic monthly salary will be determined considering your academic background, work and research experiences, and will be based on NICT's pay scale for the position.

*The basic monthly starting salary is an estimated amount as of April 1st, 2026.(Salary levels are expected to be adjusted in accordance with the National Personnel Authority’s recommendations.)

Holidays :1. Full-time, 5 days (average of 37.5 hours) a week.
A 'flextime' labor system is applied in principle.
