Offer Description

[Background of the recruitment and description of the project]
* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
As global climate change worsens, it is imperative more than ever to roll back greenhouse gas emission from livestock farming as much as from other sources. And yet as the demand for livestock products grows with rising income in developing countries in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia, improving livestock productivity by increasing feed efficiency to achieve self-sufficiency is very much needed.
Over the years, JIRCAS has produced methodologies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from livestock by using feeds fortified with cashew nuts shell liquid and by adequate treatment of livestock’s excreta in Southeast Asia.
In this regard, JIRCAS has developed technologies which not only mitigate environmentally hazardous substances such as GHG derived from livestock production in Southeast Asia; but also contribute to the enhancement of feed efficiency through effective feed utilization and of reproduction through better nutrition. It aims to disseminate these technologies in cooperation with local government units in the mid-term.
In view of the above, JIRCAS is looking for a research-scientist who: (1) possesses the expertise on animal nutrition and feed science as well as a desirable knowledge of breath-measurement tests; (2) can cooperate with researchers both in Japan and abroad with a keen global outlook to undertake joint research; and (3) is forward-looking to take on new challenging research fields such as evaluating the impact of the livestock industry on the local environment.
