Research Fellow / Postdoctoral Fellow

[Appointment period: thirty-six months]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project – “Advancing spatial methodologies and applications toward scalable and explainable GeoAI”.  He/She will be required to: 

(a)    develop spatial algorithms, big data analytics methodologies, GeoAI models and related computational platforms;

(b)    acquire, process and manage large-scale spatial datasets for internal research, external collaborations, and open benchmark development; 

(c)    design and implement scalable systems and applications to support real-world problem solving, potential industry deployment and societal impact; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader, the Head of Unit or their delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Research Fellow post should a doctoral degree with at least three years of postdoctoral research experience or equivalent qualifications and experience.

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow post should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application.

Preference will be given to those with:

(a)    a PhD degree in GIScience, Geomatics, Computer Science, Big Data, Machine/Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline;

(b)    proven technical experience in programming (e.g., Python, Java, Scala. C++), GIS and spatial algorithms, Big Data and distributed computing, and Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agent ststems; and

(c)    additional research or development experience relevant to GeoAI, scalable computing, or spatial data science.
