Offer Description

The European Law and Governance School (ELGS) seeks to appoint full and part time  Resident teaching staff for the 2026-2027 academic year (starting date 1 October 2026) for its campuses in Legraina (Greece), Rome (Italy) and Cascais (Portugal). 

The ELGS is a higher education institution established by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), an international organization, dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Public Law lato sensu and Governance (www.elgs.eu ). The ELGS holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for the period 2021-2027. It is headquartered in Rome, Italy and its titles of study are recognized by the Italian Republic as equivalent to the titles offered by the Italian Universities. The ELGS has also campuses in Legraina, Greece, Cascais, Portugal, Venice, Italy and Tbilisi, Georgia.

The ELGS offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of European Law and Governance lato sensu. Moreover, the ELGS runs other educational programs, summer courses and intensive courses on contemporary issues contributing to the public dialogue and stimulating new ideas and challenges. Courses and programs are held mainly in situ and students come from all over the world. The teaching staff is Resident or International.

Type of appointment

Appointments are for one-year with the option for renewal and shall be subject to a formal employment contract with the EPLO. Resident teaching staff will be granted the academic title corresponding to their qualifications. 

Main duties and responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the Resident teaching staff are to:    

• Teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as in other educational programs delivered by the ELGS or in academic programs affiliated with it, for a maximum of 234 teaching hours per academic year.

• Contribute to the design and structure of courses, develop syllabi, prepare teaching materials, and designate required and recommended study materials for students.

• Organize, manage, and support workshops, webinars, training activities, and open lectures.

• Supervise theses and other academic assignments.

• Conduct research projects, pursue independent research activities, and participate in the preparation of proposals for funded research programs, including Erasmus+.

• Take active part in the implementation of co-funded programs in which EPLO and/or ELGS participates, as well as in academic mobility programs.

• Assist the institutes, academies, and commissions of the ELGS and the EPLO in the fulfillment of their mission and scientific activities.

• Produce at least two (2) pieces of original academic work per year for publication in academic journals of the EPLO and/or in other peer-reviewed academic journals, indicating affiliation with the ELGS.

• Participate in the administrative life of the ELGS and demonstrate willingness to work collaboratively. Faculty members shall also demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting students throughout their academic training.

Teaching staff shall be required to be physically present at their assigned campus during the official working hours of the EPLO/ELGS, including teaching hours. Teaching staff may be assigned, relocated, or required to teach at any of the ELGS campuses, in accordance with institutional needs.

Skills/Qualifications

Eligible candidates are scholars who:
• Hold a Ph.D/LLD/JD in Law, preferably in:

  • European Law,
  • European Governance,
  • International Law,
  • Business and Economic Law,
  • New Technologies
  • Environmental Law,
  • Migration Law
  • Rule of Law  
     or a Ph.D or equivalent preferably in:
  • Political Science
  • Public Administration
  • International Relations
  • Governance or another closely related or interdisciplinary field relevant to European and international studies.
  • Are fluent in English. Fluency in Italian, Greek and/or Portuguese or in any other languages is an asset.
  • Have a high standard of research ability.
  • Have experience in the preparation, submission, and/or implementation of funded research proposals, including Erasmus+ and other EU or international funding schemes,
  • Have research record and publications that are published in peer-reviewed journals, books or other.
  • Show flexibility and ability to prepare and teach courses that are in a wider focus area.

Candidates who do not fulfill all the above criteria may be considered as candidates for Fellowships. Fellows do tutorials and assist Resident teaching staff in the execution of their duties.

Benefits

Remuneration of faculty will be in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the EPLO, and the precise amount will be based upon each successful candidate’s experience and capacity. Successful candidates shall have the right to special privileges granted to personnel working for international organizations according to the EPLO’s Headquarters Agreement. Indicatively, the salary of the Resident teaching staff may be between 25.000 and 35.000 Euro per annum based on the qualifications of the selected candidates.


Selection process

A high-profile selection committee of academics and members of the management of ELGS/EPLO will review all the CVs and short list the candidates. The candidates short listed will be invited for an interview before the final selection. The candidates will be assessed by the Faculty Board of the ELGS according to the following criteria:

• Academic qualifications.

• Research record and publications.

• Teaching experience in English.

Candidates are responsible for checking their eligibility requirements to take up the post under the relevant immigration regulations and, if shortlisted, they will be required to provide documentary evidence to support their right to reside and work in the county of the assigned campus. Please note that successful applicants will be granted a Letter of Invitation to support their request for a visa.
