The Institute of Virology at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin is a research and teaching institute headed by Prof. Dr. Benedikt Kaufer. It is part of the Center for Infectious Medicine and the Veterinary Center for Resistance Research (TZR) and specializes in research on viral pathogens and the development of vaccines and diagnostic methods. The Institute of Virology is looking for a committed research assistant (postdoc) for research, diagnostics, and teaching to start as soon as possible.

Job description:

Participation in research, teaching and service in the field of virology with a focus on cellular and molecular virology.
• Independent management of scientific projects
• Supervision of doctoral students, bachelor and master theses
• Planning, implementation and supervision of research projects in the field of veterinary virology
• Acquisition of third-party funding
• Dissemination, presentation and publication in peer-reviewed journals of scientific data
• Independent organization and implementation of theoretical and practical courses for students of veterinary medicine
• Act as an examiner in the virology state examination
• Participation in academic self-administration

Requirements:

Completed university degree and doctorate (Ph.D.) in veterinary medicine (Approbation).

Desirable:

• Experience in handling cell cultures and virological assays.
• Experience with animal experiments (FELASA Cat. B course or equivalent)
• good communication skills and team player
• Abililty to formulate clear scientific hypotheses and work effectively with collaborators
• good command of written and spoken English
• German language skills
• Evidence of successful teaching and service at a university or research institution as well as excellent research activities
