Main Mission :

The research engineer will contribute to the modelling, enrichment, and structuring of heritage and musical metadata within the framework of the PLACEMUS-XR project (Cluster 2 – Horizon Europe) and Task 1 of its Work Package 8 (Integration into the ECCCH: Analysis).

She/he will support the members of RicercarLab (CESR – University of Tours) in the preparation of data and metadata for their future integration into the semantic web, with a particular focus on the technical aspects, by developing methodologies that enable the integration of musicological and heritage corpora into immersive environments and, ultimately, into the Cultural Heritage Cloud (ECCCH) developed by the ECHOES project.

She/he will be responsible for the technical design and implementation of data processing pipelines (SQL databases, Python scripts, RDF triples), for the structuring of metadata, and for their integration into digital and immersive environments. She/he will work in close collaboration with researchers and engineers at RicercarLab to ensure the quality, coherence, and valorisation of the corpora.

Skills/Qualifications

Skills
• Proficiency in developing Python scripts for data processing.
• Solid knowledge of the semantic web: RDF, the CIDOC CRM ontology and its extensions, SPARQL queries.
• Experience with version control and dissemination tools: GitHub/GitLab, Zenodo.
• Understanding of the European research project ecosystem.
• Technical English at C1 level.

Soft Skills
• Ability to work in a team, in particular with the other engineers in charge of Task WP8.1, as well as those involved in WP3 (Itineraries and Scenarios) and WP5 (Preliminary User Studies: Analyses and Design of Interactions), and with the international teams of the PLACEMUS XR project, especially those responsible for WP8 and WP9.

Specific Requirements

Process Development and Data Structuring
• Develop and maintain Python scripts and tools for data processing.
• Align data for integration into the semantic web (ontologies, vocabularies, RDF graphs, SPARQL queries).
• Contribute to the structuring and enrichment of metadata in accordance with heritage and musicological standards (TEI, MEI, IIIF).

Coordination with Partners and Scientific Support
• Define protocols for integrating datasets provided by the project partners (musical sources, recordings, historiographical data, etc.) into the ECCCH.
• Contribute to the drafting of scientific reports and publications.
• Contribute to the laboratory’s scientific communication (Hypothèses blogs, technical notes, documentation).
• Ensure the online publication, documentation, and sharing of data in accordance with the FAIR principles and international open science standards.                                                                            

Specific Constraints
• Presence required at the laboratory premises in Tours (RicercarLab).
• Travel within France and abroad.
