RAPSODEE Research Centre, a joint research unit of the CNRS, is one of three research centres at IMT Mines Albi. RAPSODEE is a laboratory with around 100 staff members conducting research in several fields, such as process engineering, energy and energy system optimisation.
Context
The European ORION project brings together twelve partners, academic laboratories, R&D organisations and companies. Its aim is to combine energy transition and digital transition to develop innovative digital tools that improve technologies and decision-making support systems in order to increase renewable energy sources and reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions in a context of increased demand for energy resources. One of the ORION project's research activities is the development of decision-making software to assist in choices regarding the evolution of energy systems that promote the introduction of renewable energies and the reduction of CO2 emissions. The use cases envisaged concern seaports, more specifically the evolution of their energy demand and their renewable energy production assets.
The scientific challenge of this project is to develop a software tool to design and evaluate changes to be made to a local energy system for a port facility and surrounding economic zones over the medium and long term. The software tool will incorporate predictions of changes in local energy use and consumption, as well as the specific characteristics of the use cases studied (port applications).
Objectives
The main objective of this 12-month research project is to develop a comprehensive methodology and related software tools for the design and optimisation of local energy systems over a medium- to long-term prediction horizon. Based on predictions of changes in energy consumption and specific uses related to port operations, scenarios will be defined from which energy systems will be designed using a multi-criteria optimisation approach. The solutions obtained will be evaluated according to various performance indicators
