Offer Description

Project Context
The Metasurface Team at CRHEA (CNRS / Université Côte d'Azur) is opening a two-year postdoctoral position starting in early 2026. CRHEA is an internationally recognized research laboratory with strong expertise in nanophotonics, materials science, and advanced nanofabrication.
This project focuses on the development of functional optical metasurfaces with engineered responses tailored for selective optical camouflage. The targeted devices are designed to operate at specific near-infrared wavelengths while remaining minimally perturbative across the rest of the optical spectrum. A key scientific challenge of the project is to achieve robust spectral and angular performance, ensuring stable optical behavior over wide incidence
angles, large-area scalability, and environmental robustness.

The main objectives of the project are:
• Design and optimization of metasurfaces exhibiting tailored spectral responses at
selected near-infrared wavelengths
• Development of angularly robust optical functionalities over wide ranges of incidence
• Exploration of dielectric-based resonant and non-resonant nanophotonic
architectures compatible with large-area fabrication
• Demonstration of prototype metasurface devices combining optical selectivity,
angular stability, and fabrication robustness
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the full metasurface development workflow, from concept and numerical modeling to fabrication and experimental validation.

The postdoctoral researcher will work within the Metasurface Team at CRHEA, in close interaction with permanent researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, engineers, and external collaborators.
The activities will include:
• Electromagnetic modeling and numerical simulations (e.g., FDTD, FEM)
• Design of metasurface architectures based on dielectric materials available at CRHEA
• Participation in micro- and nanofabrication processes using CRHEA's state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities (advanced lithography and etching techniques)
• Optical and structural characterization of fabricated devices using broadband
spectroscopy and electron microscopy
The position offers a stimulating interdisciplinary environment and opportunities to develop advanced skills in numerical optimization, nanofabrication, and experimental photonic characterization.
