Job Description:

The Department of Architecture at the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) seeks employment for a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting Fall 2026, in the area of Urban Design, preferably with a strong track record of teaching and research in urban and community development, especially in rich cultural contexts and urban heritage locations. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the exploration of the role of urban theory and design in community development within the Bachelor of Architecture Program at the American University in Cairo. She/he is expected to introduce theory as the base for methodological research and investigation and tie aspects of political, economic and social practices to concepts of design and development. She/he will be also expected to establish and pursue an interdisciplinary research focus in the area of urban design and community development and to lead an outreach program within the University and the community at large. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to courses in urban design, undergraduate dissertation, as well as thesis supervision in the MSc in Architecture degree along with other members of the department.


Requirements:

The candidate must have a Doctoral/PhD Degree in Architecture / Urban Design. Special preference will be given to candidates having a strong track record of teaching and research in urban and community development; preferably a candidate with a North American or a similar experience. Expertise in rich cultural contexts and urban heritage locations will be considered a plus.
