<!-- ko if: isJobTitleVisible --> Research Assistant for Freshwater Ecology Group at Department of Biology, SDU <!-- /ko --> <!-- ko if: isAlreadyAppliedVisible --><!-- /ko -->
Job Description
A 2-year, full- or part-time position as a Research Assistant is available in the Freshwater Ecology group for a candidate interested in contributing to advancing state-of-the-art freshwater ecosystem restoration, habitat (re)creation, and management of natural hydrology in lake and wetland ecosystems.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a relevant master’s degree in freshwater biology and/or ecology and have experience with independent planning and conducting ad-hoc seasonal field and laboratory work. Key skills for current projects include sampling and analyses of water chemistry parameters, sediment and soil nutrients (especially carbon and phosphorus), and measurements of greenhouse gas dynamics.
Experience in handling and analyzing large and continuous data sets covering a broad range of biogeochemical parameters is considered essential.
A valid Danish driver’s license is required, and experience with sailing and sampling from boats is a strong advantage. Good communication skills in both Danish and English is also important, as daily tasks involve participating in teaching students and communicating with national environmental authorities and foundations, international corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
We expect the candidate to have an interest in working flexibly across multiple projects — both independently and in close collaboration with the group’s PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and biology students — as well as a willingness to learn new skills and knowledge.
The selected candidate will join a research group working on both basic and applied research projects grounded in systems-ecological, biogeochemical processes —including carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics, water quality and nutrient turnover in response to ecosystem interventions, and freshwater biodiversity, with particular emphasis on the ecophysiology of fish and macrophytes.
Starting date: April 1, 2026. Number of weekly working hours is expected to be 34 to full-time.
For further questions, reach out to Associate Professor Theis Kragh (tk@biology.sdu.dk) or Research Assistant Emma Polauke (emmap@sdu.dk).
