Job Description
Are you interested in advancing research at the intersection of Science & Technology Studies (STS), Transition Studies, and Organizational and Institutional Studies? Do you want to explore how water systems design, governance, strategic and collaborative planning can support socially just and environmentally resilient urban and regional futures? If so, we invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Researcher position at DTU Sustain.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoc to contribute to the cross-disciplinary Horizon/Innovation Fund Denmark–funded NATURGO and Nature Thrives projects, conducted in collaboration with several cities and partner organizations across Europe and Denmark. Your expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods and collaborative processes will be central to developing new conceptual and methodological frameworks for strategic urban and regional planning and for infrastructure design that supports the mainstreaming and upscaling of water-related Nature-Based Solutions, including Landscape-Based and Integrated Approaches to water management.
You will be based in the Water Systems Section at DTU Sustain, DTU Lyngby Campus, and work closely with Senior Researcher Chiara Farné Fratini. You will also have opportunities to participate in meetings, seminars, conferences, and research activities with a wide network of Danish and international academic and practice partners.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting mixed-methods research and performing text analysis of different types of literature and qualitative/quantitative datasets (e.g. interviews, surveys).
- Carrying out comparative analyses of water and environmental governance and planning in European cities.
- Publishing scientific articles in collaboration with project partners and colleagues.
- Contributing to fundraising activities aligned with your research profile.
- Supporting teaching and supervision activities at the BSc and MSc levels as opportunities arise.
- Contributing to the department’s impact strategy with a focus on sustainability and inclusion.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
We are looking for candidates with demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative data management and analysis, particularly related to interviews, surveys, text analysis, and collaborative processes. Additional competencies—such as network analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), or design thinking—will be considered strong assets.
We value collegiality and expect you to contribute actively to the collaborative and supportive team environment in the Water Systems Section.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years.
Preferred starting date will be 1 April 2026 or soon after. The position is a full-time position.
