Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated experimentalist to develop and implement innovative strategies for protein expression and screening, supporting the integration of artificial intelligence in enzyme design. In a project funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), you will work in a team with a computationally skilled postdoc to investigate the influence of enzyme loop properties on glycoside hydrolase (GH) performance in transglycosylation.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will work with state-of-the-art platforms, including cell-free expression, microbial expression, high-throughput screening, and state-of-the-art carbohydrate analysis, to validate computational designs and generate data that advances our knowledge of enzymatic carbohydrate synthesis towards sustainable biocatalysis. You will be part of a collaborative team of PhD students and postdocs skilled in enzyme expression and characterization, carbohydrate analytics, computational modelling of enzymes, and AI-driven enzyme design.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Establish a high-throughput enzyme expression setup in the group supported by department-wide expertise
  • Implement high-throughput screening assays to evaluate the performance of designed enzyme variants, including verification of assay performance by HPLC-based analysis
  • Express designed GH variants and evaluate their performance
  • Supervise BSc and MSc student projects

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in biotechnology, biochemistry, or related areas. We are looking for a candidate with the following specific and documented qualifications:

  • Experience in activity assessment for carbohydrate-active enzymes, preferably including assay development
  • Elaborate experience in enzyme expression, purification, and characterization
  • Experience in production of enzyme variants by site-directed mutagenesis
  • Experience in HPAEC-PAD and LC-ESI-MS analysis of oligosaccharides
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).
