Assistant Professor for Department of Geological Sciences – Paleontologist

Department of Geological Sciences  at the Faculty of Science MU is a modern workplace engaged in both basic and applied research across a broad range of geoscience disciplines. It provides teaching in degree programmes at all levels, from Bachelor’s to PhD.

Job Description

  • Active participation in the preparation and delivery of teaching in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes of the Institute of Geological Sciences, including supervision of students’ theses
  • Teaching courses in the fields of palaeontology, stratigraphy and historical geology
  • Scientific and research activity in the field of palaeontology
  • Identifying and submitting research project proposals, and active involvement in ongoing projects

Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Geology or a related field
  • Significant research and publication activity in palaeontology
  • Professional experience in a specialist position in the field of palaeontology
  • Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of Czech; teaching in Czech is expected, particularly in the early semesters of study
  • Practical experience with the documentation and management of palaeontological collections
  • Practical experience in the regional geology of the Czech Republic, with a particular focus on continental environments, for the purpose of supervising students’ theses
  • Qualifications and motivation for teaching activities, as well as for further academic and professional development
