Course Title: CHM243H5S Introductory Organic Chemistry II
Course Description: The chemistry of benzene, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acid, esters, acid chlorides, amides and amines will be covered. As well, electrophilic aromatic substitution, protection and deprotection of alcohols, nucleophilic acyl substitution, nucleophilic addition, carbonyl alpha-substitution reaction, keto-enol tautomerism, carbonyl condensation and amines will be introduced. The emphasis will be on organic mechanisms and application of organic reactions to multistep synthesis. Continues from CHM242H5.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 2026 – April 2026
Salary: CUPE3902 Unit 3 Salaries . The rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: M.Sc. in Chemistry and/or Biochemistry. Sound knowledge in contents covered in the course required. Previous TA experience working with undergraduate students in Chemistry laboratory setting an asset to be able to demonstrate and deliver course content consistently within the UofT's standards. Good communication skills are required as well.
Description of Duties: Duties will include laboratory demonstration, marking laboratory reports, and/or quizzes/assignments. May also include invigilation of term tests and/or final exam.
