Offer Description
The AmazonFACE Program (Free-Air CO2 Enrichment experiment in the Amazon rainforest) is seeking a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in Biology, Ecology, Geosciences, Earth System Science, Environmental Sciences, or related fields and proven experience in computational modeling of vegetation to conduct research on the integration between vegetation modeling and experimental data from the AmazonFACE Program in order to assess how different types of Amazonian plants respond to increased atmospheric CO2.
Responsibilities: Lead the calibration of the CAETÊ (Carbon & Ecosystem Trait Evaluation) model developed at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, São Paulo state, Brazil) for the AmazonFACE experimental site; develop a framework for analyzing and comparing the results of the field experiment with the CAETÊ model outputs; perform a first-order upscaling of the initial results of the AmazonFACE field experiment to the entire Amazon biome, using the CAETÊ model to evaluate the consequences for the carbon cycle and plant functional diversity in the region.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,570.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity. The fellow will be tied to a 24 month contract, extendable for further 12.
