Offer Description
The Efficiency of Networked Systems Group (ENSG) at UCLouvain is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on advanced topics at the intersection of networking and systems, aiming to design sustainable next-generation IT infrastructures. The group includes the PI and three PhD students, with funding for additional PhD and postdoc positions.
The selected candidate will define their project jointly with the PI and will mentor Master’s students and help guide PhD students.
The offer is for one year full-time, renewable for a second year
Research Focus
Our work rethinks Internet architecture in light of today’s heterogeneous hardware (multicore CPUs, GPUs, SmartNICs, disaggregated datacenters). We explore:
- SmartNICs & P4 switches for offloading intelligence from hosts
- Device-to-device communication models enabling finer-grained, low-latency interactions
- CPU-aware pipelines & dynamic compilation to reduce latency and energy use
- Programmable switches coordinating flows across disaggregated resources
These efforts aim to enable future ultra-low-latency applications (e.g., cloud gaming, latency-critical workloads) and contribute to next-generation Internet design.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science (completed before start)
- Strong background in OS and networking
- Skilled in C and/or Rust
- Excellent academic record
- English B2 or higher (French optional)
