Your new role 

This position provides specialist data visualisation services for research, teaching and events at the Curtin HIVE (Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch). The appointee will develop and apply visualisation and data analysis tools (including Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality) in collaboration with researchers across various disciplines at Curtin and will operate, support and maintain HIVE audio-visual systems in the facility. The appointee may also take a leading role in visualisation projects and the development of technical visualisation capabilities in the HIVE. 

The appointee will provide a client-focused, high-quality service for a range of university stakeholders (including staff, students, and external partners) and across a range of HIVE supported projects. 


Your key responsibilities include:
  • Applying visualisation and data analysis tools in collaboration with researchers across various disciplines at Curtin. 
  • Developing key technical visualisation capabilities for application across a range of HIVE projects and research discipline areas 
  • Providing support using software tools and audio-visual equipment to academic and research staff, students, and other clients across the HIVE. 
  • Providing technical support and/or assistance with the operation and use of software tools and visualisation systems in the HIVE. 
  • Developing and testing new software applications, tools and techniques to meet the teaching, research and training needs of the facility. 
What You Will Bring To The Role:
  • An appropriate qualification in Computer Science or related area and experience developing and applying data analysis and visualisations in a technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience applying and developing software visualisation solutions in a technical discipline and the capacity to lead visualisation research projects. 
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: scientific visualisation, computer graphics, high-performance computing, 3D (game) engine programming. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the processing and analysis of scientific and visualisation datasets. 
  • Proficiency in VR development using the Unity development platform. 
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language such as C#, C++, etc. 
  • Demonstrated effective analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills in a corporate Service Management support environment using appropriate processes and applications with the capacity to identify and/or implement technical and process improvements to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of support effort and service quality. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with exceptional customer service skills and demonstrated ability to adjust technical language to suit the audience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and prioritise workflow. 
  • Demonstrated familiarity with AV technologies. 
Curtin HIVE 

The Curtin HIVE (Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch) is an advanced facility established by Curtin University to support and encourage the use of visualisation technologies in research projects across the University. Nationally and internationally, data collection is becoming more intensive. Sensor technologies are improving in quality and capacity, delivering a dramatic increase in data volumes. The HIVE enables a new and improved capability in the interpretation, presentation, and communication of research data.
