Bioplastics Innovation Hub aRMT specialisation in Advanced Biomanufacturing

aRMT projects within the Advanced Biomanufacturing specialisation cover discipline specific expertise in biotechnology, microbiology, molecular ecology, genetic engineering, chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, agricultural science, and soil science.

The specifics of an individual student project will depend on the successful applicants (maximum 10 stipends offered) discipline expertise and interest. 

We are currently (2026 intake) focused on aRMT projects that address:

  • Creation of novel polymers (new chemistry and genetic engineering),
  • Scale-up of polymers in bioreactors
  • Development of polymer sprays for agricultural applications such as water shedding and delivery of target chemicals onto leaves
  • Monitoring the fate of polymer and bioplastic decomposition through agriculture (soil-microbe-plant) and the wider environment.
  • Circular waste economies.

    Domestic applicants must provide documentation to Graduate Research Office (standard university eligibility) and a 1-page letter of interest to Professor Daniel Murphy.

    Example project ideas are available on the Murdoch University website under 2026 Research Projects > 2026 Masters projects and we are also happy to develop project concepts directly with potential applicants.

    • $25,000 p.a. for 1-year (duration of the aRMT)
    • Domestic fee wavier for the aRMT at $45,000
    • Domestic applicants only for the stipend.
